This Hills Are Alive With the Sound of... Silence

Luke and I had some quality time this summer that I wouldn't trade anything for, but school is back in session and I'm totally ok with it.

Before we kiss summer goodbye and get back into a real routine, here are some of our fun summer moments.
We made a volcano!

We played with our food.

And we had fun outdoors!

Goodbye, summer. Hello, fall.

Luke-isms

  • While talking about the seasons, specifically fall, I asked Luke what his favorite part of fall was. Always thinking outside the box he answered, "All the talking alligators."
  • Last night Brantley took Luke trick-or-treating while I stayed home and gave out candy. Brantley returned home about an hour later with a crying, exhausted and hyperglycemic little boy. I snuggled up with Luke in an effort to calm him down and allow his pancreas time to do its job. I asked him to tell me all about trick-or-treating.  (Please read the following sentence with a lisp.) "Well, someone messed up my candy order and I said, 'Uh-scuse me sir, but I'm uh-wergic to nuts, but it's ok because my Mom wuuuuuvs nuts."

The Blind Leading the Blind

Fall is my favorite time of year. It's when the weather finally cools off enough to enjoy sitting in my porch swing. The leaves change into beautiful colors and make a wonderful crunch under my feet when I stomp to the mailbox. Of course, fall also means that football season is in full swing.

Even though I know very little about the game of football, I do enjoy watching it. I think all of the movement and color holds my attention. What was I talking about? Anyway, Saturday Luke and I watched football together. I explained to him that the team with the highest number of points wins. He was very excited to see the numbers grow larger as each team scored.

"Which team do we wike?" he asked.
Honestly, I had no particular interest in either side, so I just picked the team with the fewest points.
"Why aren't we winning?" he asked.
"Well, we don't always win," I told him.
"Then we should kill them," he said.
"No, silly. It isn't that big of a deal. The guys on the field are kids too, just bigger. They play football on Saturday, but the rest of the week they go to school just like you do. They're still learning so we shouldn't get angry when they don't win. Got it?"
"So we are not going to kill them?"
"I'm afraid not."

Pumpkin Patch 2012 Highlights

A non-scary haunted house, perfect for and 4 yr old and his scaredy cat mother.
However, another patron kept scaring us every time we turned a corner.
After the third time, I almost punched that girl scout in the face.
"Do you want me to ride with you?"
"No, Mom. I got this."
